She was child number twelve out of fourteen siblings. From her childhood she helped her siblings by caring for her nephews and nieces. Early in her youth she went to live with her older sister Milla, and began working in sewing factories. It was in the “Iglesia del Monte” that she met the one who eventually became her husband.
She married Mr. Ismael Meléndez Rivera and together they procreated seven children, Alba Nelly, Ismael Jr, Neftalí, Nancy, Myriam, Luis Antonio, and Margarita. Her children's marriages added fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren to her family, whom Margarita enjoyed spoiling. Several “adopted” grandchildren were also added.
As a mother, she always worried that her family was okay. As a virtuous woman, she was able to build her home. Her family will always remember her wise counsel, words of instruction, and her ability to discern when her loved ones had problems and/or needs. As a woman of God, she left us an example of trust in God and integrity, as she lived reflecting the fruit of the Spirit.
Margarita’s charisma and love promoted fellowship within the church, family and friends. She stood out as a leader in the church, functioning as a teacher of children, young people and ladies, deacon, youth counselor and old woman of prayer. She always worked hard to raise funds to contribute to churches and get them to have their own sanctuary and some other church activities.
Margarita always stood with a beautiful smile, fighting and praying for her family as her great longing was for all of them to serve God. In her deathbed she reflected God's peace and love in her life in such a way that, even in her last hours of life, she kept encouraging and charging her loved ones to serve God faithfully.
Margarita left to be with the Lord on April 11, 2021. Her last words were “there’s victory” confirming that she had finished her race in victory. Her family is assured that she is resting. Margarita’s children attribute to her and their father all that they are and are proud of her teachings. They are grateful to her for giving them life and her unconditional love. Margarita’s memory will be kept as the most precious treasure.
