Lynda was born in Knoxville on October 16th, 1940. She graduated from South High School, Knoxville, Tennessee in 1958. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Lewis University, Romeoville, Illinois in 1982 and a Master in Social Work from LSU in 1986. She worked as Director of ETC’s Harbour House in Louisiana before moving to Tennessee and working for Child and Family Services and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. After retiring, she volunteered for the Red Cross and worked at many crisis level events across the country. Lynda was an avid Lady Vols basketball fan and season ticket holder for over 25 years and loved watching and traveling to see them play. She spent her retirement years supporting her grandchildren as they participated in a variety of activities and sports.
Lynda is preceded in death by her parents, Denman Doyle Johnson and Frances Margaret (Dickson) Johnson.
Lynda is survived by two daughters, Karen Crigger, and husband David, Johnson City, TN, Kristy Hoffecker, and husband Charles of Knoxville. Four grandchildren, Casey Crigger of Clarksville, TN, Alex Crigger, Knoxville, Hudson Hoffecker, Knoxville and Ellie Hoffecker, Knoxville. Step-granddaughter Alicia Hoffecker and her daughters Lailia, Lilliana and Lailee. A sister, Julia Ann “Judy” Scott of Chapel Hill, NC., and brother Denman “Denny” Johnson of Vass, NC. A half-sister, Deneen Swanson and her husband Jeff, Knoxville. And several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 6:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2022 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 6:00 PM, Pastor Charles Maynard officiating.
