I was blessed to be able to call him Coach during my time at Seymour High School.  He was a great person who loved what he did and took pride in the community he served.  I was fortunate enough to run into Coach McGinley in the parking lot of Chapman's Restaurant, when my family came back to Tennessee for a visit in 2018.  We spent some time there catching up and I was so glad to be able to introduce my sons to him.  We grabbed a photo together and went on our way.  Thinking back, I'm thankful the Lord allowed that moment to happen.  My families prayers go out to the McGinley family and we take comfort in knowing we will see him again one day.  RIP Coach!

Matt and I have want to send our prayers and condolences to the family.  Coach McGinley was such a special man!!!  I will forever remember him as a kind, gracious and patient man.  He was my driver's ed teacher back in the mid 80's, and I will forever be thankful for his generous heart and nerves of steal.  He was definitely one of the good ones!! 

Jim, my brother, you will be sorely missed. I've always been thankfully for you living your life for God, family, and friends. You have always been a great role model.
I will forever be grateful for you visiting, and making sure daddy was doing good, and all you have done for your family. I'm also grateful knowing you are with God, Kathy, Mark, your mom, and others. That reunion brings a big smile to my face.

Applause to Jim's family for such a great picture of Jim. Merriam and Webster didn't know Him as we did. If I ever publish a dictionary, I will use that picture along side words like faith, integrity, respect and devotion. Other fitting words to include are morality, honesty and loyalty. Jim truly demonstrated the epitome of ethics and civic duty. 

I met Jim in 1972 when I was 9 years old. I would spend the next 10 years in frequent contact with with this man while he mentored my brother, Tim, and I as Wrestling coach, football coach, teacher and friend. We have since remained good friends.

My proudest memory of Jim occurred just a few years ago when I attended the banquet when he was inducted into the Tennessee Chapter of The National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Very deserving!!!

The impact that Jim has had on generations of Seymour families is immeasurable. I will miss you my friend. My heart goes out to the McGinley family.

This man was one of the finest, most kindest, always met you with a hand shake and smile person you would ever meet, Steve and I will miss this Man.

I can’t think of anyone who didn’t love Coach McGinley! He was such a fun teacher, coach, etc. It was an honor to know him. I always admired how much he loved his family. He will be sorely missed, but I know he’s in his heavenly home enjoying being reunited with his wife, who he missed so much. May God wrap his loving arms around you and comfort you with precious memories.

Jim, big brother...I do miss you already.  You looked after me when we were little and would do anything you could for me later.   I admired you and Kathy working so hard, taking care of family and influencing the lives of so many of the children you came into contact with.  You were faithful to your Savior and church.  I know you are having a heavenly reunion and want you to look for me soon.

Jim and Kathy were classmates of mine who I will never forget. A beautiful couple, visited with them in their home, traveled a few times and always met them at class reunions as long as Kathy was able and later with Jim. You could never meet such an honest, clearly God Loving Man. Fly high Golden Bear, greet your dear wife, family, and friends who have gone before you, most precious Your Creator. Mr. McGinley was a truly kind man and was an example of how to treat others. He taught and demonstrated character to us as students, and was a friend to all that had the privilege of knowing him. We will miss him. Jeff and Wena Moore, and Richard Moore

I so enjoyed being Brother Jim's pastor at Bon View Baptist Church...and I so remember the morning I had the honor to baptize Brother Jim..and the many years since of meeting and renewing our relationship in the Lord. Jim was the ultimate big brother. I always looked up to him. Jim was a Christian with a very good heart. I'm so glad he is at peace now. Coach was a very special man. 
It seems like just last week I got to talk with him at church. He was a good man, and he will be missed. 

Coach Was always a friend to his players many years after coaching us. He never forgot important things that had happen to us in Highschool. He always reminded me of how I had been the most improved player my senior year. To me even as an adult this meant so much to me he remembered this. He alway had a smile and encouraging words for me even in my adult years. I will truly miss Coach and his Godly beliefs that shined through him daily. RIP Coach and I rejoice in your welcome home party you are sharing with your family in Heaven. Love you Coach. 

I always enjoyed visiting with Jim and Kathy, starting way back in the late 1980's.  Even though I was Kathy's friend, Jim was always sociable and pleasant to talk with.  I know that after Kathy and Mark passed away, life was  hard for Jim.  I've appreciated our little Facebook exchanges over these last few years and will always remember him fondly.  For one so strong, he was a gentle man.  I know he took such good care of Kathy when she was sick.  It is beautiful to picture him with Kathy and Mark again, but sadder to think of "here" without Jim.  He was a good one!  And he loved his Lord.


Mr McGinley was  a wonderful teacher and friend. It was truly a blessing to have known him. Rest In Peace sir and enjoy your wonderful reunion with your precious family that you missed so much 

Coach McGinley was a fine and honorable man.  His commitment to help others along in their individual journeys, was second to none. The lessons he taught me on the gridiron, will continue to be carried all through my lifetime. It was nothing less than a great honor to have known Coach McGinley.  His legacy will continue to live for many years to come. God Bless you Coach.

Mr McGinley was a very kind caring teacher left a positive influence on many young people. Was always a delightful person to talk with and would help one anyway he could. Great loss for Seymour Community.

So very sorry to hear of Mr. McGinleys passing. He was such a good man, always kindhearted. 
The impact he made on me and many others, will last a lifetime.  
I still remember him sneezing while I was driving one day, scared me so I almost ran off the road haha. He made learning enjoyable.
This world will be a litte less bright without him in it.  RIP sir.
