Cooper, Janice Lawson, age 65, passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2011. She fought a courageous battle against Cancer. She was of Methodist faith and a proud member of Young High Class of '64. Her passion was the Vols, and they never had a more loyal or knowledgeable fan. Janice owned "A Place in the Sun" for 17 years and developed a number of loyal customers who quickly became friends. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Charles H. Lawson, Jr.; mother, Mary Lou Oliver Lawson; grandparents, Mother Mae and Daddy Elmer Oliver; Agnes (Mompy) and Charles Lawson. Janice is survived by her most precious and loving daughter, Ashley Cooper. Ashley's never-wavering support and constant care made Janice's life happy and gave her the strength to endure her illness. She is also survived by Ashley's caring father, Terry Cooper; step-sons, Wes Cooper (Michelle and daughter, Haley), Rodney Cooper (Angie and son, Tyler). Her brother, Phillip Lawson (Janet); sister, Rebecca Lawson Riley (Bill); nieces, Lindsay Lawson Brazier and Wendy Parker; nephews, Dean Parker and Ches Riley; aunts, Betty Weaver and Jean Oliver; cousin, Cathy Oliver Terrill and a number of Lawson cousins. Janice had friends that in both the sheer number and closeness were a tribute to her friendliness and loyalty to them all. She enjoyed special relationships with Louise & Dickie Davis, Nancy & Jerry Daves, Debby Pollard Koger, the "Hilton Head" girls, bunco girls, and "2nd daughter" Robin Omastiak. Receiving of friends will be 5-7pm, Thursday, October 6th at Berry Funeral Home with services immediately following. The service will be conducted by Janice's cousin the Reverend Doctor, C. Edward Deyton. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am at Woodlawn Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment on Friday, October 7th. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
