Kitt was born on June 12, 1952, and was the daughter of Joseph Monroe Smallman and Ann Gordon Dempster Smallman Hamilton.
Growing up, she and her family kept Cherokee Boulevard bustling with their many animals from horses, monkeys, alligators, birds, and even a rooster. The excitement continued as she hosted many parties that are still talked about today. They included red carpets, hot air balloons, and famous guests.
Kitt received her education at St. Ann's that split time between Boca Raton and Palm Beach, Florida, and West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. She furthered her knowledge at the University of Tennessee and Chapman World Campus Afloat.
Kitt led a life filled with love, compassion, and adventure. She had a deep appreciation for animals, sports, gardening, and traveling. Kitt's warm and caring nature touched the lives of many, and she considered her friends as close as family.
One of Kitt's favorite pastimes was playing golf and having lunch at Long’s where she enjoyed creating lasting memories with friends. The common theme amongst anyone who knew Kitt was, “She was my dearest friend, she never forgot my birthday or holiday, and we had such an amazing time together.”
A graveside service to honor Kitt's life will be held on October 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery; followed by a Celebration of Life at Union Place (4884 Chambliss Ave. Knoxville, TN 37919) at noon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Young-Williams Animal Center. This organization was close to Kitt's heart and supports the many four-legged friends she cared for and loved.
In her last days, she and her family were very appreciative of Sacred Ground Hospice House and would like to offer it as another worthy organization to give in her memory.
Kitt is survived by her brother, Joseph Dempster Smallman, two nieces and their spouses, Amber (Jay) Koonce and Morgan (Dan) Sierra, and great-niece, Constance Koonce. She also leaves behind cousins and cherished friends who were like family to her.
Special thank you to her beloved former sister-in-law, Merry Joyce Smallman Dea, for the help and love she showed Kitt during her final weeks.
Kitt's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.berryhighlandmemorial.com for the Smallman family.
