Jack B. Norton, age 83, of the Mount Olive Community in South Knoxville, went to sing in the Heavenly Choir on Saturday, February 13, 2016 after a 5 ½ year battle with internal liver cancer. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a Military Police Officer. Jack served two years and eleven months in foreign service. He received the Good Conduct and National Defense Medals. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he became a fireman with the City of Knoxville Fire Department and retired after 17 ½ years of service. After his retirement, he served as Building Superintendent for the Baptist Professional Buildings. Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. His passions included cooking, fishing, and serving his Lord. He was preceded in death by parents, Melvin A. and Ruth White Norton; and half-brother, Howard Norton. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife and sweetheart of 59 years, Clara R. Norton; sons, Edwin Keith Norton; Barry Dean and wife Julie Norton; daughter, Jackie Ruth Smith; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Chaplain Dan Hix officiating. Interment will follow at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery Governor John Sevier Highway with full military honors conducted by Volunteer State Honor Guard.
