Gail Elaine (Marks) King

Gail King, renamed “Nana,” died January 16, 2024 at Brookdale Sandy Springs in Maryville TN. She was born in Nashville on August 10, 1941. She attended schools in Oak Ridge; graduated from Roane County High School; and attended the University of Tennessee. She worked for Nationwide Insurance; J. C. Bradford; Tennessee Eastman; Kingsport Arts Council; Kingsport Counseling Center; and Moss Brothers Construction. She was married to Albert Lee King for 59 years. She was an honorary life member of the PTA and a member of the United Methodist Women alumnae. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and travel. She lived in Kingsport from 1964 to 1998 and was a resident of Alcoa since 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sammie Vantrease Marks and Mary Louise McKee Marks and a brother Glenn Keith Bowden. She is survived by son Eric [Ava] of Greensboro NC; daughter Elaine Roberts [Breck] of Franklin TN; and son Ethan [Adriane] of College Grove TN. She is also survived by grandchildren Jordan and Ridge Roberts and Chase, Rylie, and Tyler King.

She is also survived by brothers Van Marks [Meredith] of Lynchburg VA and Daryl Bowden [Debra] of Brandon FL. Survivors also include nieces Margaret King Walling and Samantha and Dylan Bowden; nephews Jimmy King, Connor Marks, Zach Bowden, and Nicholas Bowden. Surviving cousins are Janet Marks and Marian Marks Patterson of Florida; Larry Layne and Richard Layne of Tennessee.

She was a loving and caring person. Her ashes will be interred at Berry Highland Memorial cemetery in Knoxville. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at a location and time to be communicated later.

A service of remembrance for Gail King will be held at Green Meadow United Methodist Church, 1633 Louisville Road , Alcoa TN on Saturday February 10. The family will greet friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. The service will follow at noon. Food will be available.
