December 1927 - November 2019
Born in Corinth, MS to Clarence Ketchem Jobe and Nelle Brady.
Survived by daughter Kathy (Gordon) Foster, Son Gerry Harms, grandchildren Taylor and Dean Foster, nieces and nephews; Terry, Leland, Brady, Susanne, Annelle, Gina, and her nephew Joby with whom she shared a special bond, and Stephanie Black O’Brian, extended family.
Edith is predeceased by her special husband LaMoine, her parents, her sister Bobbie Anne, brother Buddy, and many special friends.
After graduating high school Edith worked in book keeping for B F Goodrich before going on to open first a jewelry store and then a record shop. She and LaMoine continued to have a passion for music which was usually playing throughout their home. Edith and LaMoine met at her family's restaurant, The Broken Spoke, in Pickwick, TN. They settled in Knoxville in the early 60’s after several moves with the Federal Game and Fish Agency. They became avid bridge players hosting regular games with friends, food, drink and banter, and were also known for hosting the best good ole catfish and hushpuppy fry with the help of dear friends, the Hocutt’s. They enjoyed country drives and digging wildflowers to add to their garden.
Edith was part of several ladies’ bridge clubs with life long friends, later becoming a master player and teacher. She was devoted to her beloved dogs, and she always kept the birds well fed, identifying them all by sight and sound. She put her artistic talent into beautifully detailed cross stitch works of art which she shared with family and friends.
She enjoyed summers by our little neighborhood pool filled with rowdy kids, a love of reading, volunteering, attending The Church of the Savior, going back to MS to see family, and later becoming a long time employee of Proffitt’s Dept. Store.
Edith was known for being stubborn, independent, quick witted and always ready to spend time with her grandsons. She especially enjoyed filling stockings and Easter baskets for them every year.
The feisty Edith and Harms are together again.
In lieu of flowers you may donate to Young Williams Animal Center young-williams.org in her memory.
