He is preceded in death by his parents Charles E. Cates and Kathy St. John; grandparents Charles V. Cates and Loriene J. Cates; aunt Brenda (Don) Brown; cousin Kory Godfrey and grandmother-in-law Thelma Hardin.
DJ is survived by children McKenzie M. Cates, Charles B. Cates and J. Logan Cates; aunts Tammy (Steven) Godfrey and Loretta (John) Davis; cousins Amanda and Kevin Godfrey, Mintha Miles, Michelle Dalton, and John Edward Davis; former wife Brandy Cates and close friends Tiffany and Kenny Rogers.
The family, along with their families and friends, will hold a memorial service, Saturday, July 29, 6:00 p.m. at Seven Islands Church and Cemetery, 8100 Seven Islands Rd., Knoxville, TN 37920, inside the old church. Preacher Ronnie Crain officiating.
