Barbara Hancock Kanipe, age 89, was welcomed into Heaven April 24, 2022. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 4, 1932 to Dan and Bertha Hancock of the Thorngrove community and was a member of Thorngrove Baptist Church. Barbara was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She always had a hug and a smile for everyone.
Preceded in death by husband, Robert Kanipe; companion, George Core; parents, Dan and Bertha Hancock; brothers, J.B., Buster, Edison, Vincent Hancock; sisters, Hilda Petty, Dixie Russell, Della Brewer and Elaine Ford. Barbara and Elaine shared many happy years living together.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Eva Shahan; son, Tony (Cheryl) Turley; nephew, Gene Fawver (her 2nd son) who shared the home with her; nieces, Lisa Fawver King and Joy Fawver Bishop, who loved and cared for her as if she were their own mother. She is also survived by niece, Diane and husband, Lynn Brewer; nephew, Danny and wife, Kim Fawver; friends, Nancy and Leonard Newman,
Linda Smith, Brenda Lane, along with many other treasured nieces, nephews and friends who were always there to lend a helping hand.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for more than 50 years, where she served in many local and state offices. Most everybody there called her "Mom." Barbara was a very happy person. She lived life to the fullest enriched with loving family and friends. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2022 between the hours of 5:00pm-7:00pm in the chapel of McCarty Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Hwy, Knoxville with a Celebration of Life service to follow officiated by Rev. Darris Doyal. Family and friends will meet Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Pollard Cemetery, Kodak, TN for an 11:00am Interment Service.
