We got to know Oma and Opa Ruppert really well when we moved to Highpoint Ave in Waterloo. Oma, Opa and Tina Oma lived up the street.  We all attended the same church and Peter and I were active in the boys and girls clubs there on Monday nights.  Oma and Opa felt that they were called to babysit for us so that we could work with the girls and boys, so every Monday night until our children were old enough to attend club themselves they would come down to our place and babysit.  They always said," we're too old to work with the children, but we can make it possible for you to serve God."  We will be forever grateful to them that they chose to serve in this way.  When we as a family would go for a walk in the evening we would never get far.  We'd get to the top of the hill and there would be Oma and Opa sitting on the front porch.  We'd go over to say hello and the next thing you knew the walk was over and we'd be sitting there with a piece of German bread, a glass of red wine and OPA'S WURST - now that was a treat.  We have many wonderful memories of times spent with Oma and Opa.  They were a real Blessing and we're so glad that they are once again reunited and home with their Lord and Saviour. One is never prepared for the loss of a loved one, but Opa; you gave me SO many childhood memories that will last a lifetime. Everything from carving our names into those birch trees when I was 5, the pigeons, taking me fishing everyday, etc, etc The list goes on,... I remember as a child, staring out the window of the house, eagerly waiting for that brown Dodge with the cherry on the antenna to roll down the street, really looking forward to another day of adventure with my Opa. I always loved our time together. You will never be forgotten. I'm so glad I got to see you in November. I keep the pocket watch you gave me, along with the wool blanket Oma made me- in a cedar box. Those are 2 things that I will always cherish along with the many, many memories.

Hi Dad,
As I'm sitting here looking  at your obituary it brings back many memories. Right back to Germany (Bayern) were we spent a few years after the war.I remember you taking me to local soccer games, played in local farmers fields. Most of which ended in fights with the players using bicycle pumps. Wow those were the daysWe also went to see Bicycle and Motorcycle races.You always worked hard and were a very tough Father. But you were always fair.Even when I came home at 5 in the morning and wake-up was 5a.m.As long as I did my job! We shared many good times together which I will never forget. Always with a "Pepsi". By the way I'm having one right now. I'm Really thankful that I was able to see you,.and  speak with you yet on Thursday.
