He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carey, his children Madelaine (Paul), Rachel (Dave), and Mark (Amanda) as well as his grandchildren Saul Louis, Abel Stewart, and Ethan Charles.
Charles was born on July 24, 1951 in Toronto to the late Louis and Frances Morrison. He graduated from the University of Toronto and the Osgoode Hall Law school, going on to practice family law for 44 years. He was a founding partner of Morrison Reist Krauss LLP and was one of the founding family lawyers that brought collaborative family law to Waterloo Region. He served as a small claims court judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. For many years, he participated on a panel of lawyers in the Ontario Office of the Children’s Lawyer who acted to represent the interests of children in custody disputes. A pillar of the KW area legal community, he was recognized for his integrity, his legal acumen, and his care for good grammar.
Charles was a true original: he loved urban architecture, maps, planes, trains and basically any other “things that go.” His extensive music playlists would bounce back and forth from Haydn and Dvorak to Cat Stevens to niche 1960s one-hit wonders. He was a long-time member of the A.R. Kauffman and Stork YMCAs. He had a passion for travelling the globe, with trips to Great Britain, Cuba, India and Italy topping the list. He loved long walks in local natural conservation areas. He enjoyed wandering around stores, exploring the “wheels of commerce in motion” as he termed it. He was an avid reader, with a particular interest in sci fi, spy novels, political biography, and urban development.
Above all else, Charles was a deeply loving and committed family man. His family was his entire world and he filled their lives with love, joy, support and laughter. They will all miss him dearly.
A drop in celebration of life will be held at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre located at 1001 Ottawa St S, Kitchener, ON N2E 2X5 on Saturday, June 8th 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, with eulogies given at 12pm.
The family would appreciate any donations in Charles’ name to go to either the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or the YMCA of Three Rivers.
