December 7, 1931 – December 21, 2010
In the early morning hours of Tuesday December 21, 2010, Dr. Beverly Arthur Richardson (Bev) passed away peacefully in his 80th year, with his wife of 56 years by his side.
Bev was the beloved husband of Marie Isabel Richardson, and the loving father of Shelley Hulland (John) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Mark Richardson (Joanne) of Cambridge, Ontario; John Richardson (Cecelia) of Waterdown, Ontario; and Paul Richardson (Katie) of Guelph, Ontario. Bev’s family was a source of tremendous pride and joy. He played an important part in the lives of all 10 grandchildren; Megan, Erin and Thomas Hulland of Pittsburgh, Michelle and Luke Richardson of Cambridge, Laura, Renee and Jack Richardson of Waterdown and Nicole and James Richardson of Guelph.
Bev was born in Petrolia, Ontario on December 7, 1931. He was the only child of Howard and Grace Richardson. Bev graduated from the University of Toronto’s Dental School in 1956. He practiced general dentistry in Elmira for 8 years, after which he returned to the University of Toronto to complete a specialty in Pediatric Dentistry. Bev returned to Kitchener in 1967 and practiced Pediatric Dentistry until his retirement.
During his career, Bev held various positions that included: Principle Investigator of a Provincial Grant that studied the Effectiveness of Fissure Sealants in the Prevention of Tooth Decay, President of the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, member of the Canadian Dental Association, member of the Waterloo-Wellington Dental Society, Acting Chief of Dentistry at the Hospital for Sick Children, Director of the Dental Program at Moose Factory, Chief of Dentistry at the Mid-Western Children’s Centre, and Chief of Dentistry at the Sunbeam Home. He was also involved with dentistry at Sioux Lookout.
Bev was a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Probus Club and past member of Westmount Golf and Country Club, Beaver Valley Ski Club, and the Social Planning Committee of Kitchener.
After retirement, Bev went back to the University of Waterloo to study history, with a particular interest in treaties with the Indians. Bev was an avid reader and collector of books. He loved to ski and scuba dive.

Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener, on Wednesday, December 29th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 11:30 am in the chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Brooke Ashfield officiating. A private family interment will take place on Friday, December 31st at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, Ontario.
