Arthur Maine

Born 91 years ago in the north of England, Arthur, known to all as “Mick”, emigrated with his wife and three children from the U.K. to Canada in 1955 and immediately began building a brilliant career as a professional engineer in the aerospace industry. In increasingly responsible positions, Mick worked on everything from the earliest Canadian satellites to the famous “Canadarm” on the space shuttle. He was prominently featured on the film documentary “Canada’s Space Pioneers”. At the age of 91 he published the latest version of his paper on theories of sub-atomic physics and the nature of dark matter. Mick was also a top draughtsman, designer and builder who loved renovating every family home. He also built museum-quality model ships, large-scale RC planes, and was a keen amateur oil painter. Mick was interested in many things and his knowledge, energy and love of learning have been an inspiration to daughters Linda and Carol, sons John and his wife Catherine and (grandson Joshua), Alex and his wife Patrizia, and stepson Chris and his wife Linda. Mick is survived by his first wife, Daphne and predeceased by his second wife, Janine. A memorial service to celebrate Mick’s life will be held at the RATZ-BECHTEL FUNERAL HOME, 621 King St. W. Kitchener, on Friday October 3rd, at 11:00 am. A reception to follow in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. A Private family interment will be held at a later time at Parkview Cemetery.
