William “Bill” Fischer, 82, of Sarasota, Florida, passed peacefully in his sleep, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Plantation Bay Rehabilitation Center in St. Cloud, FL. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 2 at Sarasota Christian Church located at 2923 Ashton Road in Sarasota. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery located at 9810 State Road 72. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarasota Christian Church. Bill was born on February 16, 1936 in Cumberland, Maryland to Lincoln and Ollie (Batman) Fischer. He enlisted in the United States Army as a member of the Signal Corps and served in Germany during the early 1960s. On July 20, 1963 he married the former Janet Eileen Williams in Charlottesville, Virginia. Upon the family’s move to Sarasota, he was employed as a small engine repair technician and retired in 1992. He enjoyed playing softball and golf, coaching youth baseball, and spending time with his friends, children and grandchildren.
He helped found Sarasota Christian Church in 1973, served as Deacon and taught Sunday School for people with special needs.
Bill is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Martha Helen Cason and her husband Tony of Kissimmee, FL; his son Bradley Neil Fischer and his wife, Jennifer Ann (Warner); four grandchildren, Nicole Beth, Andrew Bennett, Kelsey Morgan, and William Lincoln; and his sister Dorothy (Fischer) Pendley of Shenandoah. He was preceded in death by his parents Lincoln and Ollie and his brother Albert.
