He was born October 8, 1947 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Rod was the first born son to Reuben and Irene (Haglund) Fischer. Rod married his beloved wife Jane in 1969 in Cadillac, Saskatchewan. In 1975 they settled on a farm outside of Kipling, Saskatchewan where they would build their lives together and raise their two sons Christopher and Kim.
Rod had a deep seated love of the land and a passion for farming. When he wasn’t working in the fields, he could be found travelling down country roads admiring the beautiful views and prairie skies. Rod was a man of great faith and appreciated God’s creations.
He was a people person and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and family as often as he could. It could be said that his favourite visits were those with his three grandchildren. They were very special to him and he left them many treasured memories to hold onto.
Rod is survived by his loving wife Jane and will be dearly missed by her and his two sons Chris, Kim and his wife Tennille and three grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jaxen and Kierra. He will also be missed by his dear mother Irene; his brothers John (Gloria) and Randy (Shannon); sister Wendy (Terry) and many nieces and nephews.
Rod was predeceased by his father Reuben and brother Donald.
A public graveside service was held in the Edenland Cemetery on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank their church family, friends and neighbors for their support, calls, texts and food brought to the house. A heartfelt sincere thank you to the palliative care nurses and the Kipling Memorial Hospital and Integrated Health Centre for the special care that Rod received during his stay.
