Preceded in death by: his father, William Sr.; his mother, Carrie Nell; his brother, David Marsh; his son, William III; his daughters, Jeanette and Carrie Sue; and the mother of his children, Virginia Sue. He is survived by: his son, Lawrence David Boyd; his daughter-in-law, Bernadette A. Boyd; his grandson, David Lawrence Boyd; as well as loved family, Wally and Peggy Edge, Donna and Sidney Clinnard; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
“Bill” attended both Tyler and Gladewater High Schools. He graduated an Engineer from the University of Texas at Austin. His professional career in entirety was dedicated to Humble, Esso and then Exxon. His specialty was Reservoir Engineering, which he enjoyed and excelled at thoroughly. Retiring after more than 30 years, he took up tax preparation as a sideline.
As a family, we traveled from Liberty, Texas to Houston, Texas then Kingsville, Texas. From there we travelled to Oklahoma City and Midland Texas, finally arriving in Kingwood in 1971.
Most of my memories revolve around our home in Trailwood Village, and the beginnings of Kingwood United Methodist Church meeting in the Lufburrow home. The congregation then moved to offices across from the “new” sanctuary, then on to the Community Center in Forest Cove where my father and others built pulpit furniture. The gym was then built and finally the current sanctuary. It was a long journey carried out by men and women of “The Generation”.
The families of that time are my fondest remembrances. The Sheltons, Byrds, Hacks, Rossers, Clapps, Clarks, Coogans, Pierces, Perdues, Polars, Hicks, and quite frankly more others than I can remember.
A special mention to the Bridge Club who somehow put up with Dad’s obsessive competitiveness; the only time any of them drank!
Dad loved fishing, golf, and scuba diving. But most of all, he loved his family. The best of all fathers; the best of all grandfathers. He lived truly and completely for us.
I, Lawrence D. Boyd, am forever humbled by his dedication, patience and effort.
I will love you forever, Dad, and will strive to be worthy!
Your Loving Son,
Larry
