KINGWOOD, TX – Virginia Adams Elmore went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Virginia, 84, will be held at 11:00 am Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Kingwood Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Fred Dallas of Second Baptist Church. Visitation will be preceding the service at 10 am. Interment will be on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm in Smyrna, TX at the Smyrna Cemetery.
Virginia, an only child, was born to the late Morris and Vassa Adams on October 31, 1926 in Vivian, LA. Growing up she enjoyed riding her horse Dan with her best friend Doris Roy. Their Saturday ritual was to pack a picnic lunch and to ride till sunset. Virginia also enjoyed and mastered water skiing, square dancing, fishing, playing 42 dominos with many friends, camping and loving her dogs Snicker and Curly. Pete and Virginia traveled to all 50 states, the lower 48 by motor home.
Virginia earned a BS degree from Louisiana Tech University and a teaching certificate from Centenary College of Louisiana. She also received her Master’s in Education and her Diagnostician’s certification from the University of Houston. Virginia taught elementary school for 27 years (both first and second grade). She especially loved teaching first grade and helping her students attain a great start in their education.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James (Pete) Elmore, her son Jim Elmore and wife Kathy, her daughter Belinda Ralston and husband Gordon, grandson Dylan Elmore and wife Sunmy, granddaughter Dr. Holly German and husband Scott, grandson Kyle Elmore, and great-granddaughter Emily Elmore.
Honoring Virginia as pallbearers are Dylan Elmore, Kyle Elmore, Mark Sy, Lee Roy Besier, and Leon Hudman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
