The man. The myth. The legend. Men wanted to be him, and women wanted to be with him. Stephen Edward Papp died on November 3, 2021. Steve loved his family, golf, working in his shop, and the New England Patriots. Not necessarily in that order. He hated politicians, clutter, rap music and the back door being left open. Not necessarily in that order. He was a master craftsman who was always working on projects for both his family and friends. He was also known for his love of grilling and smoking barbecue, and his unconventional driving skills. Steve loved to tell stories, especially about his trip to Granada – no matter how many times you may have heard it. And you could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%. His music tastes ran the spectrum from Jimi Hendrix to George Strait to smooth jazz. The latter, much to his family’s dismay. And he was the hero for his five children: Melissa, Stephanie, Stephen, Alison, and William.
When Steve took off to join his oldest son Stephen on that fairway in the sky, he left behind his wife Linda Papp, daughters Melissa Jones (K.C.), Stephanie Glover (Jeff), Alison Igoe (John) and his son William Papp; grandchildren Avery Jones, Ben Jones, Nick Jones, Hayden Willis, Madeline Willis, Aiden Igoe and Claire Igoe; sisters Kathy Papp, Tawn Perkins; brothers Kurt Papp, and Pete Papp.
Steve died after hitting a hole-in-one on the 10th hole at Augusta National Golf Club – his fourth hole-in-one of the day. Or maybe not. We all know how he liked to tell stories.
His service will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 US-59 North, Kingwood, TX on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 1-4 p.m.
Finally, the family asks that in honor of Steve that you raise a toast to his memory with the warm toast Steve shared with family and friends, “Cheers and good health.” Steve will be greatly missed by all.
