Sam Park III of Kingwood, Texas passed away on June 30, 2014 after a long battle with heart issues. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on December 24, 1932. Sam is preceded in death by his mother and father, Rhoene Funchess Park and Sam Park Jr.; his first wife, Imogene Gauthier Park; his second wife, June Etheridge Park; his son, Sam Park IV; his cousin, Hank Funchess. He is survived by his son, G. James Park of Kingwood, Texas, Jim’s wife Chris and their two sons Matthew and Sam; his daughter Anne Park Marshall of Kingwood, Texas, her husband Larry and their two daughters, Emily and Laura; his brother Jim Park of Beaumont, Texas, his wife Sissy and their three sons, Kyle, Joey and John. After graduating from Beaumont High School in 1951, Sam attended college at Texas A & M, LSU and Rice University, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geology. He retired after a full career with Sun Oil Co. He then did consulting work for Rosewood Resources. In his younger years he was a member of Beaumont’s St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and later in life Kingwood’s Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the American Geological Society. Throughout his life Sam has enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, LSU sports, cooking, gardening, shooting squirrels and telling a good story. His children would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Barbara Barnett and Jennifer Koonce. Also, thanks to the rest of Team Sam – Dwight, Gabrielle, Susan and Ty. A service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood on Thursday, July 3,2014 at 10 a.m. officiated by Father Richter. A reception at the church will follow. Graveside services officiated by Father Calcote will be the same day at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont Texas at 3 p.m.
