Richard Michael Sloan, 71, of Humble, Texas, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2023. Richard was born on June 27, 1951 to Walter Ernest Sloan, Jr. and Mary Patricia Sloan in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Richard was a man of family, faith, and humor. He lived his life guided by a strong moral code and instilled that importance in his family. Richard was an innovator in the oil and gas field and a lover of history. His legacy is his seven children and love for his wife Janet. They were truly partners in life and an example of admiration, dedication, and friendship. Richard was known for his trademark mischievous grin and as a man who loved a good story. He taught his children how to get lost in the music, appreciate a meal, and deliver a punchline. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, quick wit, and loving heart.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet Sloan, daughter Emily Sloan, son Christopher Sloan and wife Melinda Sloan, daughter Rebecca Ruthenbeck and husband David Ruthenbeck, son Matthew Sloan, son David Sloan, daughter Karen Sinha and husband Gautam Sinha, and daughter Laura Sloan; brother and sister-in-law Tim and Terri Sloan; grandchildren Garrett Ruthenbeck, Lucas Sloan, Elizabeth Sloan, Gavin Ruthenbeck, Margaret Sloan, and Thatcher Ruthenbeck, as well as, an extensive extended family of many beloved brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Walter Sloan Jr., mother Mary Patricia Sloan, and brother Daniel Sloan.
Memorial Service to be held at Lamb of God Lutheran Church on March 4th, 2023 at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation before the service at 10:00 am and lunch served after in the fellowship hall.
