Mamie Butler Gadson was born February 15, 1950 in Decatur, IL to Albert Boyd, Sr., Virgil Butler and Mamie Butler and later loved and raised by Alma Marshall Butler.
Mamie graduated from Southeast High School class of 1968. She later graduated from Northeast Harris Community College in 1989 with her Associates degree and received her Certificate in Human Resource Management from Rice University.
On July 25, 1981 Mamie married the love of her life Joseph Gadson and they made their home in Kingwood, TX. She worked for Weil for 25 plus years until her retirement in 2014. She was a Human Resources Manager and held Professional Affiliations with Society of Human Resources Professionals, National African American Association of Human Resources and Association of Legal Administration. She served on HR Houston Legislative Action Committee, Gulf Coast Symposium Committee and Diversity Committee.
She enjoyed reading, traveling with the love of her life Joe, and writing. In 2017 Mamie wrote her first book called "So You Want A Job? Hah!" She was a member of Second Baptist church where she was very active in her Kingdom Citizens Sunday school class and enjoyed singing with the choir. Mamie enjoyed volunteering and giving her time to many different organizations such as Jack and Jill of America, Alpha Pregnancy Center and the United Way.
Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Boyd, Sr., Virgil Butler, Alma Marshall Butler, Mamie Butler and her brother Albert Boyd, Jr.
Mamie is survived by her loving husband Joseph Gadson of Kingwood, TX; daughters Erica Austin, Carol Kent and Monica Moore; Her brothers in law Marion Otis Gadson and Dr. Richard Gadson; Sister Paulette Boyd; Sisters in Law Marlene James, Doris Davis, Carolyn Washington, Albertha Littles and Ruby Newton. Seven Grandchildren, two Great Grandchildren and a host of extended loving family members and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 5 pm to 9 pm at Kingwood Funeral Home at 22800 Highway 59 North Kingwood, TX.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10 am at Second Baptist Church-North Campus at 22770 Highway 59 North Kingwood, TX.
Mamie Gadson also wrote a book by the name of "So You Want A Job? Hah!" this book can be purchased on Amazon.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in the name of Mamie Gadson to the United Way of Greater Houston.
