The youngest daughter of Frances and Robert Milner, Linda was born on May 9, 1955, in Falfurrias, Texas. Her father’s work in the oil and gas business moved the family to towns across Texas and Louisiana, but Linda’s outgoing personality helped her build friendships easily in each new city. After graduating from high school in New Orleans, she attended Louisiana State University and graduated in 1978 with a degree in speech and language pathology. She later completed her teaching certification at Sam Houston State University and led a 14-year career as a dedicated teacher in math and science.
Her innate curiosity and love of nature and animals made her the consummate teacher, both inside and outside the classroom. She walked through life with an observant eye and appreciation for natural beauty, collecting bird’s nests, jars of tadpoles and collections of leaves, rocks, bugs or plants to show her students and her grandchildren.
Linda was passionate about her family, a loyal friend, laughed easily, worked hard, valued honesty and had a strong faith. She could usually be found at the center of any social gathering or party, loved music and dancing, and found joy and fun in anything she tried. Linda discovered her love of travel through her husband of nearly 19 years, Steve, and treasured experiencing the world while on his arm. From travels to Europe and Canada, road trips along both coasts of the US and weekend adventures across Texas, she loved to take in the beauty of every new place they explored and always chose to take the scenic route home.
Above all, her favorite place to be was with and her family, the center of her world. A dedicated wife, daughter, sister, mom, Memaw/Grammy, Linda never missed an opportunity to celebrate, cheer on, or show her support for all her family. She created lasting traditions for holidays and organized countless events and parties over the years to bring family together. Her daughters, Jennifer and Amy, were her pride and joy. As a mom, the love and care she showed them over the years was unwavering as she guided them from the time they were babies, through their teenage years and as they started families of their own. But, her dedication to family didn’t stop there. She devoted years to caring for her parents before they passed in 2017 and 2018, and as a grandmother, was engaged, active and involved, present for countless milestones, soccer games, baseball games and dance recitals. An added blessing in her life came through her marriage to Steve, when she became part of a wonderful blended family with the Davis boys.
Her love of family and the outdoors culminated when she and Steve built “The Cabin” in East Texas in 2003. Over the years and throughout two additions, she spent innumerable hours and late nights working on the cabin, shoulder to shoulder with Steve. Their love and hard work turned the cabin into more than just a gathering place, and into a home where untold memories have been made - nature walks, crawfish boils, sunsets in the pasture, Amaretto by the firepit, fishing on the lake and family reunions.
Linda is survived by her adoring husband, Steve Davis; daughter, Jennifer Huntsberry; daughter, Amy Campbell and her husband Zach; stepson, Aaron Davis and his wife Kasey; stepson, Todd Davis and his wife Heather; and stepson, Brad Davis and his wife Christine. She was filled with love for her five (soon to be six) beautiful grandchildren: Rhian, Brooklyn, Max, Oliver, Eloise and Baby Girl Campbell. She is also survived by her sister, Terry Kelly and her husband Allen, as well as numerous members of her extended family. She will be deeply missed by these and all who had the pleasure of knowing her, including her Golden Retriever, Holly.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 2pm at Kingwood United Methodist Church. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to American Cancer Society.
