John grew up in Fort Worth, graduating from North Side High School in 1949 and Texas Christian University 1953. John was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. John would go onto become an exploration geologist for Exxon, working in Texas, Oregon, California, Colorado, and back to Texas. He and his wife Nellie moved to the Houston area in 1976 and then to Kingwood in 1980. John retired from Exxon in 1986.
John’s passions were photography, travel, and bridge. He won many prizes for his photography, traveled all over the world, and was a Life Master Bridge player. He was also an active member of Kingwood United Methodist Church.
John leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years Nellie Switzer, his daughter Linda Clarkson and her husband Gann, his son John Randolph Switzer and his wife Janet, four grandchildren; Alisa Waibel, Kyle Clarkson, Erin Switzer, and Robin Switzer, and four great grandchildren; Annie Switzer, Quentin Switzer, Kaitlyn Waibel, and Jack Rogan Switzer. John also leaves behind his sister Betty Nuss.
John is preceded in death by his parents John Rogan Switzer, Sr. and Mildred Hayes Switzer.
The Switzer family will be receiving friends for a memorial service to honor John at Kingwood United Methodist Church, 1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, Texas 77339, on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
