Our Daddy’s first job was as a lifeguard at the local pool in Roaring Springs, Texas. Then he had several jobs like driving a truck and selling coffee. Since Daddy was so good at selling coffee, he went on to open his own business “Truman Dobbins and Associates, Inc.” in January of 1981. Daddy loved his job; over the years he had won many awards for Salesman of the Year and was in business for over 19 years until he retired at the end of 2000. (Daddy had sold his business to our brother Mike and he is still the owner of Truman Dobbins and Associates, Inc. to this day.) He then moved to Lake Livingston Texas where he had owned property on the Lake for many years.
Daddy was a BIG-TIME fisherman; he had been on many fishing trips with his son Glenn and grandson Andrew. Daddy always took us kids fishing, he loved fishing and loved to teach us kids about fishing. Daddy had owned both a bass boat and a pontoon boat and he was always up really, really early to go fishing (we all experience that early morning wake up squirt of water in the face if you didn’t wake up the first time we were told). When Daddy felt like he could no longer maintain his property on Lake Livingston he decided to move back to the Houston area and was living in Kingwood for the last several years.
Daddy loved to travel, he had owned several motor homes and has traveled across the United States and Canada during his retirement. Most recently on June 8, 2020 Daddy and Beckie traveled to Northern Indiana to visit some motor home friends; then to Sevierville, Tennessee to visit more of their friends; then on to Kingsport, Tennessee to see Beckie’s son Blake and his family; then on to Tulsa, Oklahoma to see Beckie’s other son John and his family and finally returned home on August 19, 2020, he always wanted to get away from the heat in Houston during the hot summer months.
The funeral service will be held on January 5, 2021 at 2:00PM at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Hwy 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339. Officiating will be Pastor Mike McMahon of Monument Baptist Church in Deer Park, Texas, of which our brother Glenn and his family are members. If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Star of Hope, Houston or Wounded Warriors or Shriners Hospital in Daddy’s name “James Truman Dobbins”.
Daddy will be missed, but NEVER forgotten! We love you Daddy!
