Upon graduation, Fred took his first pastorate at Hesperus Baptist Church in Hespress, Colorado.
In 1980 Fred and Laura were appointed as missionaries by the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention beginning in the Canary Islands of Spain. From there Fred, Laura and their children moved all over Spain, then to Norway and finally to Germany where Fred served in a regional role overseeing 17 countries from Greece to Estonia in Central and Eastern Europe.
