David Ray DeWitt, of Odessa and more recently Kingwood, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2023. He was born in Strawn, Texas on March 16, 1944, to Ray and Keith Blackney DeWitt.
David grew up in Goldsmith and worked on the Flag ranch with Babe Nevens, and had plenty of stories of ranching like they did in the old west. When he was sixteen and Mary was fourteen, they eloped to Mexico and got married. Nine days later they got married with the “approval” of their parents in Odessa. Shortly after that David began serving his country and was the youngest B-52 Crew Chief in the United States Air Force.
Shortly after his discharge they left Austin and headed back to Odessa where David had several jobs before becoming a purchasing manager for El Paso Products company. He worked for El Paso until his entrepreneurial genes kicked in and he started a few companies including PMC-Global Industries with his brother and sisters as well as Hawk Equipment and Manufacturing.
Anyone who knew him knew that he loved to tell stories and rebuilding old cars and especially Ford Broncos. He also loved to travel with his family and friends and never met a stranger. He loved riding around town with his dog Sam. He was a great father, husband, leader, but the job he loved most was Papa.
David was preceded in death by his father, Ray DeWitt; mother, Keith DeWitt; brother, Kenny DeWitt; and sisters, Betsy Calloway and Gay Garrett. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary DeWitt; son, Matt DeWitt; daughter-in-law, Carmen DeWitt; grandsons, Mattix and Dylan DeWitt; two nephews and seven nieces. They blessed the family with great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
David wants everyone to live their lives full and happy, celebrate his passing, for he will be with the LORD.
The family will receive friends at Copper Rose Venue on Saturday April 15th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 415 N. Grant Street, Odessa, Texas.
