Marvin Allen Whitley, age 86, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas and a former longtime resident of Kingsville and Vattmann, Texas passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on February 10, 1924 in Kingsville to John Thomas Whitley and Minnie Maude Muncus Whitley. Mr. Whitley was employed at Celanese Corporation as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. He was also a self-employed farmer. Mr. Whitley was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 21 years, Enid Yarborough Whitley; and granddaughter, Laura Jill Hamilton Cox.
Mr. Whitley is survived by his second wife of 42 years, Hazel Whitley of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Linda Jean (Patrick Randolph) Hamilton of Premont, Texas and Marsha Kay (Arthur Oliver) Suckling of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two stepsons, Paul (Carol) Russell of West Virginia and Charles (Lana) Russell of Dallas, Texas; brother, Homer Lee (Peggy) Whitley of Weslaco, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Respects can be paid on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Resthaven Cemetery with Arthur Oliver Suckling officiating. Military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail and the Randolph Air Force Base Honor Guard will follow at the conclusion of the graveside service.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
