William "Bill" Smith

William M. Smith, age 84, entered into rest October 22, 2013 at his residence. Bill was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and was a longtime resident of Kingsport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Azriah Kimbro and Elizabeth Ann Smith, and a brother, Kim. Bill retired from IBM with 37 years of service. He was of the Methodist faith. He served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann E. Smith; four daughters, Betty Garst and husband Danny of Blountville, Kim Castle and husband Don of Kingsport, Amy Cross and husband Daryl of Asheville, NC, Pam Davidson and husband Kevin of Kingsport; grandchildren, Billy Garst, Stephanie Baker and husband Noel, Jeff Garst and wife Hannah, Rachel Castle and wife Donna, Amanda LaJoie and husband Josh, Amber Cross, Darwin Cross, Kelsey Davidson, Madelline Davidson, Brooklyn Davidson; great-grandchildren, Dayton Baker, Alexander Castle, Christian LaJoie. The family will receive friends today from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
