Ruth worked as an LPN at Holston Valley Medical Center in the 1950’s. She was very involved with her community, including the PTA, volunteering as a nurse at Robinson Middle School, and was a School Crossing Guard at Washington Elementary. She loved crafts, ceramics, porcelain dolls, basket making, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; sister, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Babe Wagner.
Left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband, Howard Kenneth Hicks, Sr.; sons, Howard Hicks, Jr. & wife Lynn and Bryan Hicks; daughter, Shelia Hicks Bellamy; grandson, Bobby Hicks & wife Christy; granddaughter, Lori Hicks Rau; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Rau and Turner Rau; and a host of friends.
The family will greet guests and share memories on Thursday (March 1, 2018) from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Brother David Dotson officiating.
Committal services will be held on Thursday (March 1, 2018) at 3:00 p.m. in the Garden of Everlasting Life I at East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Wellmont ER as well as the staff of the 5th floor, and Wilcox Hall for all of their kindness and generosity. Also, a special thank you to Hospice for their attentiveness and kindness given to Ruth and her family.
