Martha Elizabeth Myers

Martha Elizabeth Myers, age 96 of Orlando, FL, entered into the glories of Heaven on Friday, February 9, 2018. Martha was born on January 2, 1922 in Scott County, VA to the late Samuel J. Myers and the late Virginia Mae Purdy Myers and Stepmother Golda L. Harr Myers.

Martha always put her family’s needs above her own needs. Being a single parent, Martha did everything she could to provide for her family. During WW II she worked making parachutes for our troops. Afterwards she worked as a caregiver in a private retired Veteran’s home; also, in private homes and private duty at the hospital; as taking care of those in need were a high priority to her. She never expected anything in return and she was always willing to do her very best in helping others.

One of her favorite things to do was to sing with her sister Juanita and friend Louise Morton on the local radio station WOPI in Bristol, TN. It was during this time that she had the wonderful opportunity to meet and work with Tennessee Ernie Ford. Martha found solace in gardening; especially growing her favorite flower: pink baby roses. Martha was a member of Church At The Cross, formerly First Baptist Central Florida.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Daniel Colvard; two brothers, Roy J. Myers, and Ralph I. Myers; and two sisters, Cleo H. Harr, and Juanita H. Moody. Also, brothers-in-law Carl Harr and Niles Moody Sr. and sister-in-law Katherine Cook Myers.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Deborah K. Posey and husband Randall; grandchildren, Brian T. Posey and wife Jessica, Stephanie R. Posey Sofka and husband Mike, Bradley S. Posey and wife Christi, and Ashley (Grae) Colvard Pledger and husband Gavin; and 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. An interment service will be held at 3:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Prayer.
