Rev. Lester “Bud” Lawson, Sr., age 81, went to be with the Heavenly Father, August 30, 2012 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Bud was born in Jenkins, Kentucky and was raised in Baileyton, Tennessee, but had made Kingsport his home for the past 62 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Eastman Kodak after 35 years of service.
Bud was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He loved gospel music and sang with the “Gospel Harmoneers” for many years. Bud was called to preach God’s word after his retirement and taught Sunday School. He loved playing guitar and singing on Friday Bluegrass night. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Grace Lawson; brother, Frank Lawson and sister, Janette Ryans. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Loretta; son, Lester Lawson, Jr and wife Trena; daughters, Donna Fulkerson and husband Len, Kim Kindle and late husband Rick, Mitzi Quillin and husband David; grandchildren, Anna and Brett Herron, Landon and Amanda Bailey, Kayla “Princess” Bailey, Darby and Felicia Kindle, Dusty and Shannon Kindle, Holly Kindle, Jake Quillin, Shane Lawson, Travis Lawson, several great-grandchildren, many special friends and neighbors including Becky Harold, the Ft. Henry Pals employees, Dot Trent and Wexford House.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, September 1st,2012 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, with funeral services following at 7:00.p.m. at the church with the Pastor Wayne M. Baker officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be David Quillin, Len Fulkerson, Shane Lawson, Travis Lawson, Brett Herron, Larry Franklin, Landon Bailey and Dusty Kindle. Honorary pallbearers will be N.R.
