Karl Donald Addington, 86, passed away on Tuesday (October 18, 2016) following an extended illness. Karl was born on January 17, 1930 to the late Joshua F. & Pearl (Wampler) Addington in Nickelsville, VA.
Karl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. He was stationed in Germany where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Karl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching sporting events, and NASCAR racing.
In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Susie Mumpower Addington; sister, Arletta K. Broadwater & husband Joe T.; six brothers, Sylvan, Theldon & wife Mona Lee and Ann, Harold S. & wife Lois; Lilburn & wives Edith, Barbara, and Lena, Herbert P. and wives Mozel and Hazel, and Rexford & wife Inamae.
Karl is survived by his son, Steven D. Addington; grandson, Vincent Addington; three nieces, Sheryl L Broadwater, Shelby S. Addington, and Yolanda L. Buchanan; nephew, Bobby S. Broadwater; several cousins, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday (October 21, 2016) from 6 to 7 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Will Shewey officiating.
Entombment will be Saturday (October 22, 2016) at 2 p.m. in Mausoleum II at East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park with military rites provided by American Legion Posts 3/265.
