Mr. Edwards was born on May 5, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Byron and Margaretta Jung Edwards. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed cutting wood, gardening, and was an avid reader. Mr. Edwards served in the United States Navy from 1948-1951 and graduated from The Ohio University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1955. He lived in Blountville, Tennessee for 31 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Blountville. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Edwards was employed with GE and Univac as a Quality Control manager.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by one brother Richard Edwards and one sister Joan Edwards Barry. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mrs. Lillian Brooks Edwards; Son, David (Mary Ellen) Edwards; Daughters, Deborah Zabek and Denise (Dale) Earl. Step-sons, Dr. David (Susan) Rankin and Philip (Debra) Rankin; Step-daughter, Susan Marie Rankin. Sisters, Alice Kinne and Frances Bowers. Grandchildren, Adam (Tara) Edwards, Allison Edwards, Rebecca Edwards, Mark Edwards, Joseph Zabek, Laura Zabek, Daniel Earl, Michael Earl, Bennett Smith, Jamie Sendelbach, Drs. Christopher(Laura) Rankin, Drew Rankin and Melanie Rankin.
Funeral services for Mr. Edwards will be conducted on Sunday January 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Blountville. Dr. Clay Austin will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church. Burial service will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park.
The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and they include: Adam Edwards, Mark Edwards, Daniel Earl, Michael Earl, Bennett Smith, and Drew Rankin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Blountville Building Fund, PO Box 587, Blountville, Tennessee 37617.
The family wishes to express a very heartfelt “Thank You” to Jody Martin FNP and the staff of Life Care Center of Gray station 1, and to Dr. Rachel Monderer for her many years of professional care.
