James “Jim” Perry Miller, Jr., age 71 of Kingsport, entered into rest on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Mr. Miller was a Kingsport native and the son of the late Perry and Margaret Miller. He was a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Miller loved his family and his church; he encouraged others to love the Lord. He enjoyed renovating real estate property, and antique cars. Mr. Miller attended the Georgia Military Academy. His favorite past time was caring for his grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Keener Miller, a grandson, Gabriel Houston Miller, step-mother, Oma Miller and his mother-in-law, Bertha Ramey. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Shirley Ramey Miller; son, Robert (Bobby) Miller and his wife Amanda; daughter, Sherry Margaret Sawyer and her husband Steven; grandchildren: Megan Ward, Ashley Ward, Brittany Miller, Cierra Davidson, Robert Jacob Miller, Desiree Sawyer and Destiney Sawyer; one brother, Jack T. Miller and his wife Connie; special uncles, John Michael Chambers and Robert M. Chambers; special niece, Sarah Rhymer, along with other nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service for Jim Miller will be conducted on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at New Life Freewill Baptist Church, 2444 Rock Springs Road, Kingsport, with Pastor Hal Calhoun, Rev. Gary Calhoun and Mike Calhoun officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Music will be provided by the church choir. Interment will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012 in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Freddie Sawyer, Roy Ramey, Jr., Ronald Ramey, Shane Ramey, Timothy Ramey and Kenneth McDavid. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Daniels, Jim Lane, Mike Chambers, Charles Phipps and David James Miller. Everyone is asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.
