Hugh McClain, age 89 of Kingsport, entered into rest on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Holston Manor. Mr. McClain was a Kingsport native and the son of the late James Clinton and Mattie Lou Taylor McClain. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 44 years of service with perfect attendance. He joined Eastman’s Acetate Yarn Division on July 31, 1941 and later went on military leave in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Mr. McClain was a WWII veteran, where he was a Gunner’s Mate First Class. Upon his return to Kingsport, he was assigned to the Shops and Maintenance Division before returning to the AY Division. Mr. McClain was later transferred to the Research Laboratories where he was a pilot plant technician. He enjoyed winemaking, along with radio and electronics. Mr. McClain was of the Methodist faith.
Other than his parents, Mr. McClain was preceded in death by Sisters, Ruby Neely and Willie Mae Fannon, half-sister Charmie Overbay; brother Isaac McCLain and half-brother Charlie McClain.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Nina S. McClain, one daughter: Patsy Millard and husband Alan; sons: Tony Lee McClain and wife Marilyn, Terry Hugh McClain and wife Pat, and Rick McClain and wife Anita; grandchildren: Scott McClain, Brant McClain and Anthony McClain and four great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. McClain will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2011 in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Allen Karnes officiating. Music will be under the direction of Harmony Three. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday. Interment services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 1:00 pm in East Lawn Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 pm.
