Gary Edward Sensabaugh, 82, of Blountville, Tennessee, was embraced by the arms of his Lord and Savior on November 14, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Although Gary will be greatly missed, his earthly family rejoices knowing that his body is restored and he is celebrating with his heavenly family.
Gary was born in San Diego, California, to the late Preston and Beatrice (Elfner) Sensabaugh. He retired in 2002 from the Kingsport Press with 37 years of service. After a brief retirement, his love of golf led him to the Crockett Ridge Golf Course, where he worked and played for many years. Gary was a faithful member of Sunnyside Baptist Church and loved his Men’s Sunday School Class. Gary enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his son, grandson and late friend Charlie Bishop.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years Phyllis (Hammonds) Sensabaugh; daughter Angie (Brent) Helvey; son Corey (Karen) Sensabaugh; sister Dorothy (Sensabaugh) Cox; grandchildren, Megan Miller (Justin), Zach Helvey (Katie), Courtney Jones (Chris), Kristen Mullenix (Marcus); great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Eleanor and Jude Miller, Blake and Kori Helvey, Kennedy Terry, Karaline and Maddie Mullenix; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Doug Foster (Freddie), Fred Sarver (Katy), and Richard Brickey (Sandy).
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, and will be officiated by Dr. Bill Sims at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Sensabaugh, Brent Helvey, Zach Helvey, Justin Miller, Barry Brooks, Terry Brooks, John Brooks, Randall Moore, and Craig Hammonds. Honorary pallbearers will be his Men’s Sunday School Class.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care. A memorial contribution can be made in Gary’s memory to Sunnyside Baptist Church Building Fund.
