Donna Ann Hammock passed away on July 1st at age 61 after long battle with life. Donna was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on October 15th, 1961. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Velda and Luther Noel and Mazie and Harry Hammock Jr., She is survived by her mother and father, James “Jim” and Peggy Hammock and her brother Andrew Hammock and nephews. She was also survived by her Uncles Wayne Noel, Michael Noel and Steve Noel. She is also survived by her Aunts Judy Bowery, and Nanci Smith. Donna lived in Gainesville Florida, Alexandria Louisiana, Mt. Pleasant Michigan, Mt. Clemons Michigan, where she went to grade school, and Columbus Ohio, where she graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1979. Donna was given her first camera in the 4th grade by her father and was an avid photographer the rest of her life. She enjoyed reading, crafts, travel, music and family. Donna spent nearly every summer at her grandmother Velda's house in Kingsport. "Baggi" as she was known to all her grandkids, Donna, plus her Great Aunts Frances and Juanita would take road trips all over the southeast. She loved just sitting on the porch with her mother and grandmother assessing life. After graduating and moving to Kingsport, she attended East Tennessee State University. Donna worked for 14 years at the Kingsport Times News as a Photographic Technician. She was a member of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Dept. for almost 10 years where she was a Dispatcher, on the Board of Directors, and was active with the Fun Fest Rodeo Team. Her many varied training classes led to a job with Bristol Tennessee Police Department, where for 29 years she was a Dispatcher, Police Records clerk, and finally as Secretary to the Investigations Division. Donna could easily be bribed by her co-workers, simply with sweet tea, light ice, extra lemons. She was a dedicated hard worker that came to work on Friday and died on Saturday.
Her parents, friends and family gave her a great life. She was grateful for all the friends in all the places she lived, among them Coralee Woodland, Carmen Musick, Patty Summey, Todd Yates and many others. She was a shoulder to cry on or a friend to share laughs with.
She loved Jeopardy and played it every night. She is in heaven now finally getting to show Alex Trebek how smart she is.
Memorial donations can be made to the Bristol TN Police Department Benevolent fund, 801 Anderson St., Bristol TN. 37620.
Donna hoped to be buried on a sunny day. Her favorite flowers were peonies and she wanted a few on her grave. Donna is 10-7, at last.
The Hammock family will gather to greet friends and share memories on Sunday, July 9 from 2-3pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 3pm in the Chapel.
