On Friday (July 29, 2016) the Lord called His faithful servant, David Michael “Mike” Shoemaker home after a 10 year battle with cancer, which he fought with honor, strength, and dignity. David was born on December 20, 1957 to Mr. Paul Thomas Shoemaker, Sr., who preceded him in death and Mrs. Viola Hinkle-Shoemaker in Danville, PA.
David was a hardworking and dedicated employee of the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Food Service Administrator. He served for 21 years in various places including PA, AL, WV, and CA and most recently at USP Lee, Duffield, VA.
David was a humble, caring, and kind man who had a heart for the lost. David served the Lord with enthusiasm and gratitude. David was an active member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, serving in many areas, including his passion, The Care House Ministry.
David is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Robin Shoemaker; son, Craig Lebo of Madison, WI; adopted daughter (niece), TaNayha Sprenkle of Tamaqua, PA; brothers and sisters, Connie Andes, Rose Ernest, Paul Shoemaker, Jr., Mary Freeze, and Francis Shoemaker of Danville, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday (August 2, 2016) at 7pm in the sanctuary of Higher Ground Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 5pm until the time of the service. Light refreshments will be served in the Family Life Center immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Higher Ground Baptist Church (1625 Lynn Garden Drive Kingsport, TN 37665 with special notation in honor of David Shoemaker/The Care House Ministry).
