Alice loved spending time with her family and friends, and cooking. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Alice was a faithful member of Gunnings Baptist Church.
Alice was born on January 16, 1938 to the late Arthur & Gertrude (Cuningham) Bledsoe. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold “Buddy” Bledsoe; and sisters, Maxine Kendig and Kathy Wolfe.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 60 years, Jack Childress; two daughters Jackie Leonard & husband Benny and Elaine White; son, Eddie Childress; three granddaughters, Vickie Lilly, Samantha McClain, and Meredith Bledsoe; four great-grandchildren, Isiah Jackson Buchanan, Elaina Grace Bledsoe, Jaelyn Rae Lilly, and Hudson Grant Lilly; brother, Robert “Bob” Bledsoe; sister-in-law, Nancy Shipley; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday (January 11, 2018) in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Ferguson officiating.
Alice will be laid to rest in the Garden of Everlasting Life II at East Lawn Memorial Park on Thursday (January 11, 2018) at 3 p.m. Online condolences may be made to the Childress family at www.eastlawnkingsport.com.
