Joan was born November 18, 1928 in Southern Michigan. She was adopted at age 3 by John and Florence Weiglein, and there she lived until age 18. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1947. She liked to roller skate at an indoor rink. It was there she met her first husband, Luther (Lee) Calvin Mosley, a soldier stationed at Fort Custer, Michigan. He was from Chandler, Oklahoma. They were married for 14 years. Together they had five children; Cathy Giddis, Sandra (Sandy) Michels, Nancy (Dave) Middaugh, Deana Mosley, and Larry Shane Mosley. Lee passed away in 1961.

Joan enjoyed sewing clothes for her four daughters and little outfits for her son. She made Barbie and Ken clothes for her girls. We watched her bump the treadle on the sewing machine. She also enjoyed selling Avon and Beeline Fashions for several years. Her daughters would model the clothes for her at her shows. She also sold Tupperware for 13 years, she was a district manager. She enjoyed crocheting, fabric painting, word puzzles, and Bingo. Joan has been a member of Cornell Church since 1969.
