Selma Gieber, 91, of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, died at the Cheyenne Life Care Center on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs with Father Carl Gallinger officiating. Viewing will be held at the church on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. Selma (Burkholder) Gieber was born in Meridan, Wyoming on October, 9 1933, the daughter of Ray and Hilma Burkholder. She was raised with her sister Ruth and brothers Ray and James in a sod house that her parents built on their homestead. That sod house still stands today and is registered as a National Historic building!
Selma attended school in Albin and graduated from High School in 1954. Growing up as a country girl she loved her pets (including a young beaver) and farm critters. She started working as a young girl in the area, including the Bastians and Chamberlain ranches near Egbert, WY.
Selma met the love of her life, Clarence (Bub) Gieber, at a dance in Albin, WY in 1954 while he owned and operated the Phillips 66 Service Station in Pine Bluffs. They were married on November 27, 1954, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs. They were blessed with six children: Kathleen, Clarence Jr., Patricia, Lori, John and Janet. In 1956 Bub and Selma purchased the Pine’s Body Shop and Bub operated that business until 1975 while Selma raised their family in a loving home. In 1975 Selma went to work for the Laramie County School District #2 in Pine Bluffs, helping Bub clean and working as a cafeteria cook and server. She retired after 25 years of service.
Selma was a member of the Royal Neighbors Alter and Rosary and Pine Bluffs Women’s Bowling Association. Bub and Selma enjoyed their free time together participating in church activities, bowling leagues, playing pinochle and board games with friends, camping and boating, and most of all being with their children and grandchildren. Selma loved her family more than anything in the world. A happy home and wonderful family was her life goal.
Survivors include: son John Gieber (Ronda) of Superior, MT., daughters Kathleen (David) Winters of Loveland, CO., Patricia (Edwin) Stoner of Cheyenne, WY., Lori (Elon) Nelson of Holyoke, CO., and Janet (Frank) Collins of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Jerod Stoner, Tara Miller, Shawn Stoner, Kyler Winters, Nathaniel Gieber, Callie Baltcerzak, Cassidy Collins, Elise Pocock, Sydney Barber and Xander Nelson; plus 9 great grandchildren! She was preceded in death by her husband Bub, parents Hilma and Ray Burkholder, sister Ruth Berry, brother Ray Burkholder, and son Clarence Jr..
