Robert Bob Rider

Robert “Bob” Rider, 88, of Gering and formerly of Banner County, died at Heritage Estates in Gering on Monday, January 23, 2017. The family requests that friends wear casual dress to the memorial services at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with The Reverend Christine Plantz officiating. Friends may also visit www.cantrellfh.com to view Bob’s Tribute Wall and leave messages of sympathy and stories for the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to either the Harrisburg Fire Department, the Harrisburg Museum or a charity of the donor’s choice. The services for Bob have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.

Robert Eugene Rider was born in Kimball on April 15, 1928, the son of Alva and Alice (Cross) Rider. He received his education in Banner County and graduated from the Harrisburg High School in 1946. Bob worked with his father on the family farm. He was married to Rose Arlene Van Pelt in Banner County on October 24, 1948 and to this union Donald and Roxie were born. Bob and Arlene continued to operate the family farm in Banner County and also did water well work until his retirement in 1985. Bob enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel, and one of his favorite trips was with his wife to Spain.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Heritage Estates for the wonderful care that Bob received.

Survivors include his wife Arlene Rider of 68 years; son Don (Debe) Rider of Gering, NE; son-in-law Mike Trujillo of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren Aaron Rider, Paula (Mark) Darmer, and Coye (Tammy) Trujillo; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Norma (Bill) Soule; daughter Roxie Trujillo and grandparents.
