William entered the United States Army in August of 1943 and served his country for 22 years. His duty stations were: Canal Zone, Panama. While serving in Panama he married the love of his life, Carlota Maria Dioses and they stayed married for 69 years. Other duty stations included: Fort Carson, Colorado; Sandia Base, New Mexico; United Nations Command Panmunjom, Korea; Fort Richardson, Alaska; Fort Bliss, Texas and Fort Hood. He was awarded several medals to include: American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5), World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with ‘V’ device. He had one combat tour in Vietnam and served during World War II.
He moved to Killeen in October, 1976. He attended Central Texas College and took courses in automotive repair. He had a passion for overhauling old Ford cars. He was very friendly toward everyone he met. He would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was simply beautiful—inside and out. He definitely loved his family and always cooked for the holidays.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Carlota; three sons: Luis A. Galindo of Killeen, Ruben Galindo of Puerto Rico, Edward Galindo of New Mexico; two daughters, Irma Alvarez of Killeen, and Elizabeth Galindo of Austin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Wilson and Cesar of Puerto Rico.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
