Mike was my first real brother. I remember the day we got these together in Fort Leonard wood, MO. Our Drill Instructor literally seen them and flipped the rooms desk over in the air and screamed in excitement i guess you would call it lol, he smoked us pretty good after but with a smile of encouragement towards us. anyone whos been there knows that look and feeling. and noone else on this planet would of i have ever wanted to call a brother or stand beside other than him. I am truly sorry for everyones, and the worlds loss. He was the guy alot of men should strive to be. Wish i would of seen you and had more time with you but the army took us alot of diff places but know you were on my mind often and will remain. Thank you for being a brother, friend and continuing to be all the way until your last minute, even though we all know your looking down and still covering everyones back. Until i see you again brother, rest easy.

There are no words to describe how I feel. Michael S. Mankin II is dead, and he's never coming back.  I've had the privilege to be best friends with Mikey since August of '95. Michael was my right-hand man for life. We went through all of our awkward years together, into our young adult days, up until the day he died.

Michael was a shooting star, a ball of energy. When he was young, he was always moving. We both loved Bruce Lee, punk rock, tupac, girls, and cars. We bonded on being outcasts. We were young, alternative skater types, way before baggy jeans, and we loved all things extreme and stunt related. To know him truly and deeply was to love him. He, like all of us, was complicated and layered, stubborn, but was always without fault genuine and as real as it gets. If he said he had your back, he did, and it was unconditional. Michael always had my back, and it kept me from falling and helped to push me forward. I could call him anytime, day or night. It was always, "Wassup, fool? What's good? I miss you." He is and was my brother, my closest friend. 

I'm sitting alone in a Marriott in Walnut Creek at my desk, wondering how this could have happened. And all I can think of is he was ready for his next ride, his journey into the unknown. He was truly fearless. He loved to party. He's moving out there somewhere. Next time the tunes are bumping, you see a 90s American built sedan blasting 2pac and there is something in the air,  look to the sky, blow a kiss, and remember Mikey, that was his element. 

Now that I'm all alone in the danger zone, I can officially say rest easy, sweet boy. l love you forever. Till the grave.

Always a fun time when Michael was at the house! 

I have known Mikey since pre school. My first friend I ever made, the beginning of understanding friendship! One of the first friends my mom ever let me spend the night at and first friend my mom ever let spend the night! As time passes you gain friends lose friends but sometimes you have friends that no matter how far away you are,  no matter how different your lives have changed those friendships don’t. They pick up right where it left off. That was me and Mikey. We could talk about anything at any time! Just about 30 years of friendship I don’t have many friends from my childhood so this one hits different. Love you Mikey and thank you for being one of the few friends in this life that was a real one!

Michael was always at our family functions. This was my niece’s graduation! ♥️♥️

Michael went to the beach in Biloxi with me and mom. We were swimming close to an area where they rent jet skis. He had got out of the water and on his way back in he was walking close to those jet skis and all of the sudden Michael yells “guys guys I just stubbed my toe on a big rock” from far away the guy working on the jet skis yells “that’s not a rock that’s my anchor!” Michael says “guys guys I hit my foot on a an anchor” 😂😂  Just like mom, me and Michael had inside jokes. Mom would be so mad when we were cutting up cause most of the time our inside jokes were about her! 😂 

Michael will truly be missed by everyone who new him. He was kind, funny, and one of the most caring people I have ever known. I am proud to have called him my friend! I will miss him always!

Michael was my best friend. We had known each other for the last 7 years. Michael was fun. We had so much fun together and laughed all the time. People hated to be around us because we had so many inside jokes and we were the only ones laughing! 😂 I will love him forever. I’ve loved him since the moment I first saw him.
