PVT Glendon G. Oakley Jr., 23, passed away on April 8, 2020 in El Paso, TX. He was born on December 16, 1996 to his loving parents, father retired SGM Glendon Oakley Sr. of Killeen, TX and mother retired MSG Wendoyln Oakley of Macon, GA. Glendon married Tiandra Hamilton of Lacey, WA in July 2019 at Fort Bliss, TX.
He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband and friend, who always thought of others first. He had an infectious smile that could light up any room; he loved spending time with family and had a passion for basketball, fashion, sneakers, music, playing NBA 2K and Madden NFL video games.
Glendon joined the United States Army after graduating Harker Heights High School in 2017. He completed basic training in Ft. Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Lee, VA. His first duty station was Fort Bliss, TX where he worked as an Automated Logistical Specialist (MOS 92A) with the 504th Composite Supply Company, 142nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and served one tour in Kuwait. During his service, he received several awards to include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Marksmanship Rifle Badge. In 2019, he received The U.S. Presidential Coin for his selfless act of service during the El Paso Shooting.
Glendon is preceded by his Grandmother Flo Brown who loved him dearly. He is survived by his sisters Maiyani and Glenda, godparents Michael and Janice, stepmother Jacqueline and stepbrother Andrew, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
