Ed retired from the military with 23 years of service in 1968 as a Master Sergeant. He then went to work for the Killeen Police Department, becoming a Sergeant for KPD. During his time with KPD, he earned his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from American Technological University, and later earned his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1975, he began a 17 year career with Central Texas College as the Director of the Central Texas Regional Police Academy, teaching college classes in Criminal Justice, as well. He retired from Central Texas College in 1991.
Ed was a life-long learner, and continued taking classes in a number of areas including computer technology, plumbing, and had a special love for country music. He became proficient on the banjo and piano even before retirement.
Ed was committed to service, driven by his love for his country, his Heavenly Father and church, and his community. He was an active member of the Killeen Exchange Club and the Central Texas College Retirees Association, and particularly liked to raise money for college scholarships given by those organizations.
Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith, and four children: JoAnna Odom, Karen (CE) Wolf, Edgar (Debbi) Odom, Jr, and Jennifer (Mike) Lower, as well as eight grandchildren: Lance Wolf, Colton Odom, Landon Lower, Collin Wolf, Madison Odom Bridges, Kelsi Lower, Ariannah Wilder, and Wyatt Odom, and 7 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on Sunday, September 11th from 4:00-6:00pm. Services will be held on Monday, September 12th at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Killeen with Bishop Michael Dowling presiding. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Killeen City Cemetery.
