Robert Middaugh
1924 - 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Franklin Middaugh, on June 13, 2012. Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital after battling cancer.
Bob is predeceased by his loving wife Mary Middaugh (Née Fedorchuk), his parents Franklin Middaugh, Ainsley Grasser, (Née Watt), and his step-father Jock Grasser.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Ainsley Brinkman, his grandchildren Gerry Brinkman (Susan), Jody Lamoureux (Duane), Lori Armstrong (Mike), and Julia Brinkman, and his great grandchildren...Angela, Michael and Hannah Brinkman, Regan and Kyle Lamoureux, Taylor Brooks and Alexa Armstrong, and Hailey Brinkman.
Bob was born in Southampton, Ontario, on the shores of Georgian Bay, November 7, 1924. Bob grew up near the Great Lakes, and always loved the water. He worked on the Great Lakes freighters in his youth.
When Bob was 18, he enlisted and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and he became an Air Gunner in the big Catalina aircraft. Bob was a decorated World War II Veteran. In his youth, Bob also played the trombone, saxophone, and sang in a "Big Band". Bob worked for many years at the Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Terrace Bay, Ontario.
Bob later met Mary Fedorchuk, also in the R.C.A.F., who would become his wife. They lived in Toronto, Fort Frances, and then Terrace Bay, Ontario, on the North Shore of Lake Superior. They were married for over 50 years until her passing in 1996. Their daughter and grandchildren visited often and have many happy memories from those times, for which they are grateful. Grampa Bob and Grandma Mary also made frequent and extended trips to visit in Kenora. These memories will be cherished all of our lives.
"Uncle Bob"will also be missed by special neighbors and friends Freda Boucher and her children Dawn, Pat, Lynn and Susan. They spent much treasured time with Bob and Mary.
A few years after Mary's passing, Bob moved to Kenora, Ontario with his daughter Ainsley. Bob loved to be out and about in whatever community he lived in, and was a frequent patron of Zellers, and the restaurant there. They kindly let Bob order special items that were not on the regular menu. He was carefully transported to and from many places by the caring staff of CO-OT Taxi as well. Bob loved to watch people, and to talk with them. Much of Bob's joy in life came from being around people, especially his daughter, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. "Grampa Bob" will be greatly missed, and the memories cherished forever.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Second Floor East Nursing and care staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. The angelic staff provided the kindest and most professional care to Bob in the most difficult time of his illness. A special thank you is also extended to Dr. Workman. We will always be grateful for your care.
A Service for Bob will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Fuenral Home & Cremation Centre with Pastor Cathy Giroux officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers: Gerry Brinkman, Duane Lamoureux, Mike Armstrong, and Roy Landsiedel.
Interment will be at a later date. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Mary, in Terrace Bay, Ontario.
