It is with sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce his passing on June 19, 2017 at Lake of the Woods Hospital.
Born in Emo, Ontario to Tom and Susan Geary, Jack was the eldest of ten children. Returning to Fort Frances after overseas service in World War II, he worked for Robertson Trucking. It was in Fort Frances that he met and later married Hilda Sharpley in August of 1950. Moving to Kenora in 1953, Jack spent all of his working life employed in the trucking industry---- wood haul in winter and road construction in the summer. Many people he encountered remained lifelong friends. Jack was an honest, hardworking man who taught his daughters Lynne and Darlene a work ethic second to none.
In later years, winters were spent enjoying the company of family and friends at Strawberry Square in Plant City, Florida. Summer fun always included fishing and camping. In fact, both Lynne and Darlene got to experience camping at some job sites--- Vermillion Bay for Lynne and Red Lake for Dar. Fall saw Jack getting ready for the annual moose hunt which he went on well into his eighties.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Hilda (1985), infant daughter Colleen (1960), daughter Darlene (2013), and companion June Davis (2006). Also predeceasing him were brothers Earl and Hughie and sisters Elsie (Ball), Susan (Wilson), Nellie (Derouard) and Pansy (Geary).
He is survived by daughter Lynne (Mychalyshyn), granddaughters Shauna (Gregg Kozie) and Tara Lynne (Matt Elders), great grandsons Shaun (Lacombe) and Jase (Kozie). Also surviving is Shauna and Tara Lynne’s father Sid and son in law Wayne Gilbertson (April). Brother Ed and sisters Jean (Geary) and May (Swartman) are his surviving siblings.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm.
Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence, Albert and Glen Derouard, Garth and Kevin Meadows, Craig McLean, Don Canfield and great grandson Shaun Lacombe.
Should family and friends desire donations to the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated.
