Bunny was born in Kenora and was predeceased by her parents Doug and Oreza Ward. Bunny was also predeceased by her husband Fred Makl in 1990.
In 1955, Bunny married Fred Makl, and the couple had three children: Kirk, Lynda and Jeff. They began their married life in Winnipeg, MB, but returned to Kenora in 1971, having purchased the Weston’s Bakery Franchise for the area. In 1977, Fred and Bunny became the owners of the local A & W restaurant. They created many great memories during this time, and formed life-long friendships with the people who worked there.
Family was the most important aspect of Bunny’s life; there is nothing she looked forward to more than spending time with her loved ones. Those that will miss her most are her three children and their spouses Kirk Makl (Barbara), Lynda Nawolski (Ron), Jeff Makl (Kathryn); her grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Ebony Drebert, Brian and Erin Drebert, Corey and Anastasia Nawolski, Crystal and Wes Romaniuk, Samantha and Braden Murray, and Travis Makl; her great grandchildren Tobin and Milo Drebert; her sister Joey Stevenson, and Joey’s family Shawna and Giulio Diano, as well as their children Brendan and Alexis. She will fondly be remembered by her extended family of sister-in laws, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Bunny was a fixture in the Nawolski household, usually dressed in red and black - her favourite colours - where family would gather for birthdays, holidays and special occasions; cooking, baking, sewing, blinging up anything they could, and of course always partaking in happy hour! Her laughter and teasing demeanor will be greatly missed. Family gatherings will not be the same without her infamous comment during the first lull in the dinner conversation: “Must be good; nobody’s talking!” Bunny always enjoyed spending time with Joey as they took turns visiting back and forth from Kenora to Calgary. The Ward sisters were almost inseparable! Bunny took great pride in the accomplishments of her family, especially those of her grandchildren, as well as her great-niece and great-nephew. She would proudly boast about their many talents; sometimes more than once.
Her family knows that she is in a much better place right now, having a martini with the love of her life, Fred. The women in her family will honour her memory by continuing to try to heed her advice of always having their hair done and lipstick on, but cannot promise that their shoes will always match their purse!
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
